Despite average ratings, High On Life is a breakout hit on Xbox Game Pass and PC

It looks like high in life the latest game from Rick and Morty Creator Justin Roiland’s studio Squanch Games does well despite receiving fairly average review scores. Aaron Greenberg, Vice President of Xbox Games Marketing, even has called the game a “breakthrough”.

Greenberg pointed to it Insights from Benji Sales, who keeps a close eye on gaming industry data. Until Sunday morning high in life was among the top four most played games on Xbox, just behind Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fourteen days and Grand Theft Auto V and before major free-to-play titles such as Apex Legends, Roblox and surveillance 2.

“I can’t stress enough how impressive this achievement is,” wrote Benji-Sales. “BIG commitment.” The reporter added that this appeared to be “the biggest ‘Day 1 Game Pass Launch’ of 2022.” Meanwhile, as Benji sales found on Friday, high in life has also done well on the Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC Game Pass charts.

Not only is high in life A hit on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, it has found success on Steam. It was the platform’s best-selling game for the week ending December 18, according to SteamDB. It was in the chart (which is based on earnings) just behind Steam Deck and ahead of big hitters like Modern Warfare II, FIFA 23 and God of Waras well as last week’s number two, dwarven fortress.

According to most accounts high in life runs very well. Under normal circumstances, Metacritic review scores of 61 on Xbox Series X and 67 on PC suggest a game wouldn’t be a smash hit. But there are several reasons for this high in life seems to violate the convention.

First and foremost, there’s a built-in audience for it. Fans of Roiland’s humor might have been drawn to a game in which talking guns spew out a torrent of quips and quips.

It’s also the last major Xbox console exclusive of the year (yes, contrary to what some say Xbox has exclusives) and it’s included with Game Pass. Even people who aren’t really watching Rick and Morty might be tempted to check out the latest notable game to hit the service, especially a rather silly one that’ll help them relax just before the holidays.

I will try to take some time to check out high in life this week before consolidating my list of the best games of 2022. I never watched Rick and Mortybut it seems so high in life works best for those who enjoy the series’ sense of humor. It’s definitely in Game Pass, so I might as well check it out.
