PS Plus subscribers now have three new games to download for free, and three of last month’s games are still available.
The last month of 2021 brings with it the last batch of free PlayStation Plus games for this year. The service continues to offer up titles for subscribers to download at no extra cost, and starting today, three new games are available on PS Plus for them to try out during the remainder of the holiday season.
For those who aren’t in the know, PS Plus comes with a number of perks like online multiplayer access and exclusive discounts. Arguably its biggest draw, though, is the selection of free PS games every month, which subscribers can download during that month and keep for as long as they maintain their PS Plus subscription.
Now that November’s PS Plus games have had their time in the spotlight, it’s time for this month’s offerings to shine. For December the lineup includes Godfall: Challenger Edition on both PS4 and PS5, as well as the PS4-exclusive LEGO DC Super-Villains and Mortal Shell. Fans of more action-oriented gameplay, especially of the Souls-like variety, should definitely find something to pique their interest this month, while players in the mood for more lighthearted fare can always turn to one of the ever-popular LEGO games.
The new selection hasn’t been without some controversy. While it’s not unusual for people to take issue with some months’ games for a number of reasons, subscribers have taken particular issue with the inclusion of Godfall: Challenger Edition. That’s because the Challenger Edition isn’t the full version of Godfall, but rather a “limited-feature” version that packages a number of endgame modes and content. Many believe this flies in the face of the unspoken rule that PS Plus games be full titles, and the hope is that the backlash to the Challenger Edition will prevent more “limited-feature” titles from making their way onto the service in the future.
Godfall: Challenger Edition, Mortal Shell, and LEGO DC Super-Villains are now available in most regions, but for PS Plus subscribers in Japan, December’s selection of titles is slightly different and larger. Replacing Mortal Shell is Lost Judgment, the latest installment in the Yakuza spinoff series, and the time-bending puzzle-adventure game The Sexy Brutale. Depending on one’s tastes, these two extra games could prove to be the superior offering.
Virtual reality fans will be interested to know that three PSVR games are also available. Although no new titles have been added, subscribers can still download last month’s PS Plus VR titles, The Persistence, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, and Until You Fall. These will remain on the service until January 3, 2022.
