How this Indian operating system differs from Android and iOS

Following in the footsteps of Android and iOS, BharOS, a native mobile operating system developed by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops) company founded in IIT Madras, is making its way into the world. The goal of the software is to give users more freedom, control, and flexibility to choose the apps they actually want to use. The company also stated that it would provide users with a highly secure environment and make a significant contribution to Atmanirbhar Bharat.

What is BharOS?

BharOS is an operating system developed in India based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) that does not contain any Google apps or services and focuses more on security. In particular, it is currently offered to companies with strict privacy and security standards. By making it available to the private sector, government organizations, strategic organizations, and telecom providers, the developers hope to reduce dependency on other operating systems.

“BharOS Service is a trust-built mobile operating system that aims to give users more freedom, control and flexibility to choose and use only the apps that fit their needs. This innovative system has the potential to change the way users think about security and privacy on mobile devices” Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, made the statement.

Is BharOS different from Android?

The answer then is no. In fact, the BharOS is based on the AOSP. The main difference between BharOS and Android is that the latter does not include Google services and is a standalone operating system that allows users to download any application they want. Also, it doesn’t come with any pre-installed applications, with limitations when it comes to downloading APKs.

However, no official information has been released to the public about how to get it, about security and updates that may be released soon.

It is also interesting to note that the default browser and messaging app in the current BharOS build are third-party programs such as DuckDuckGo and Signal. It will be exciting to see if the BharOS development team works with OEMs to introduce BharOS powered phones.

BharOS: Installation, Release Date and More:

There are no confirmations on how the operating system will be installed, what the details are and when you can see the operating system on your phone. The company, on the other hand, claims that BharOS is better than Android and iOS and can offer the devices better battery life.

Furthermore, it is also envisaged that the BharOS can easily run Android applications since it is based on Android.
