Nintendo Switch system features you may not know about

Over the years since its debut, the Nintendo Switchâ„¢ System has seen several free updates. These updates can be quite a hassle (even for our resident expert, Amelia N.), so here’s a quick list of some helpful features you may not be aware of.

And when you to do know, make sure to share your favorites with your friends!

Wireless fun

Bluetooth® audio support

Do you have heard the news? As of last year, you can pair compatible Bluetooth earbuds, headphones, or speakers with your Nintendo Switch. Try it out by going to System Preferences > Bluetooth® Audio on your system.

Find your controller

This one had a bit of buzz behind it. If you misplaced a compatible controller, go to Controller > Find Controller on your system and follow the instructions. When the controller has enough battery power, it will start vibrating, hopefully helping you find the lost little guy.

Organize games in groups

Is your games library getting out of hand? Time for some organization!

After booting up your Nintendo Switch, your cursor should be on the first icon. Beat Left on the joystick to jump to and select the All Software option.

Once in All Software, press the L button to create your first group*. You can choose which games are grouped, sort the order of games and groups, and name your groups to keep things organized. You can also place the same game in multiple groups for maximum organization.

Sorting/filtering software

Speaking of All Software, there is also a sorting feature in this section. Just press the R button to try out some handy filters!

Change button mapping

Not a fan of how the button layout is for a specific game? Go to System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping. You can even save different presets for different games.

screenshots and video

You may have spotted this one already, but here’s a refresher. Tap the capture button (the small square button on the left Joy-Con controller) at any time to capture an in-game screenshot, or press and hold the capture button to create a 30-second gameplay clip. You can view your creations by going to Album on the HOME Menu.

To share your content, you have a few options:

  1. Select Share & Edit > Send to Phone, then follow the prompts to share directly to your smart device.

  2. Connect your computer to your Nintendo Switch system using a compatible USB cable (sold separately).

  3. Users 13+ can share screenshots and videos on your Facebook and Twitter pages.

Get more with membership programs

If you want more benefits, there are two paid membership programs you can join: Nintendo Switch Online or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack**.

With Nintendo Switch Online you have access to online games/backups in compatible games, access to a library of Super NESâ„¢ and NESâ„¢ Games and Special Offers.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings you all this content plus Access to a library of Nintendo 64â„¢/ SEGA Genesisâ„¢ Games and select downloadable content.

You can find out more by going to Nintendo Switch Online from your system’s HOME Menu. Current members should also check out Profile Icon Maker.

news

We hope you enjoy reading your news feed on the system – we love creating content for you! Don’t forget that you can bookmark articles if something catches your eye. You can also organize your feed by opening it from your system’s HOME Menu and pressing the Y Button.

trifles

quick menu

And finally, a quick tip on quick settings. Try holding down the HOME button on your system to bring up a small menu that gives access to a few select settings like brightness and volume. You can surprise your friends with how fast it goes (assuming they don’t already know).

zoom in

Having trouble seeing? Go to System Settings > System > Zoom and turn on the Zoom feature. Now every time you double tap the HOME button, the screen will enlarge.

Gold Point redemption with physical games

If you haven’t heard, you can earn My Nintendo Gold Points*** on eligible physical or digital purchases. Gold Points can then be used to purchase digital Nintendo Switch games and DLC**** on Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com.

When you buy a digital game, Gold Points are automatically credited to your Nintendo Account – but what about physical games? With your playing card in the system, simply press the + button and select My Nintendo rewards Program. Once Collect Points (Game Card version only) is selected, press the A button to confirm. Just remember that buying digital versions of games earns you more Gold Points per game per dollar spent.

OK, that’s more than enough now. We hope you found it useful!

*You must have more than 13 games in your library for this feature to appear if you don’t see it.
