PlayStation 4 role-playing player Ys 8 removed from the PS Plus Extra catalog without warning

The publisher of the RPG Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana is currently investigating why the game was removed from Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra catalog without warning.

Sony’s subscription service offered the PS4 version of Ys 8 alongside other titles in the series. A £35 PS5 version of the game was released last week, with no free upgrade option for fans who already have a PS4 copy.

It was around this time that the PS4 version of the RPG disappeared from the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue.

November games for PlayStation Plus.

The removal came as a surprise to both fans of the game and its publisher, NIS America.

“DANA’s Ys 8: Lacrimosa is not coming PS Plus Extra was not planned and we are currently investigating the details,” NIS America told PushSquare. “We would not remove titles from any platform without prior communication through our channels.”

This isn’t the first time PlayStation Plus subscribers have seen games suddenly disappear from their subscription without warning.

Last month, subscribers noticed that Sony had quietly removed expiration dates for games about to leave PlayStation Plus – where it had previously given a specific date to warn fans in advance.

Sony doesn’t list game expiration dates in its monthly PlayStation Blog posts, and has apparently now dropped the Last Chance to Play section of its store as well.

Fans have subsequently taken to reddit to list games that will be leaving the service for themselves. Last week that was the Mafia trilogy, Ride 4 and MXGP 2021. But there was no indication that Ys 8 would also run.

We asked NIS America for more.
