Realme, Samsung Top Smartphones, 19-24 Years Age Group Key Gaming Demographics: Report

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Free Fire dominate mobile platforms. Although games like Apex Legends Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile are also fighting for the top spot.

India, which is already one of the fastest growing gaming consumption markets in the world, is expected to continue growing, aided by the cheapest internet, the rollout of 5G and a burgeoning young population.


According to the latest gaming consumer survey by gadget discovery platform MySmartPrice, the Indian gaming audience is heavily focused on mobile gaming. The study, based on 14,349 respondents, 42.7 percent of whom were in the 19-24 age group, identified youth as the key demographic of gamers in India.

The report also revealed that the next big group of gaming audience is the 16-18 age group, while only 4.6 percent of respondents were in the over 30 age group.

The survey further shows that the domestic audience’s focus on mobile gaming is also leading brands to cater to the mobile gaming crowd, leading them to offer the latest and most powerful hardware at competitive prices to become the number one choice for gamers to become.

The most popular brands for gaming

realme (with a 18.5 percent share), Samsung (14.7 percent) and vivo (9.8 percent) are the top gaming smartphone brands in the country, the report reveals. Interestingly, Apple’s share of the preferred gaming smartphones is only 5.6 percent.

The report also revealed that about 41.2 percent of respondents do not own a gaming console, and nearly 22 percent of those who do play games at least once a week. Only 15.6 percent of game console owners reported playing multiple times a day.

Regarding PC gamers, HP emerged as the leader in gaming, with 17.8 percent of respondents using HP laptops, followed by ASUS at 16 percent. According to the report, around 64 percent of respondents consider the laptop’s gaming capabilities when making a purchase.

Growth of gaming content creators

Alongside the gaming boom in the country, the report also highlights that the ecosystem of gaming content creators is also expanding. Youtube (81.7 percent) is the most popular platform for gamers to satisfy their need for gaming content.

Around 80 percent of respondents confirmed that they follow eSports, 46.7 percent follow occasionally, 33.3 percent follow rigorously, while only 19.3 percent said they don’t follow eSports.

Ajey Nagar, also known as CarryMinati, and Tecno Gamerz are the most popular gaming content creators, as 51.8 percent and 42.2 percent of respondents say they know these gamers.

Top Games Played by Indian Players

Call of Duty (COD) and Need for Speed ​​(NFS) rule laptop gaming. Apart from that, Indian gaming community tends to enjoy games like Valorant, GTA V, Minecraft, Fortnite and CS:GO on laptops.

The survey suggests that Indian gamers tend to play games multiple times a day, as 62.4 percent of respondents claimed the same. On the other hand, only 19.2 percent of respondents gamble once a day and around 11 percent occasionally throughout the week.

Around 31 percent of respondents said they play more than 30-90 minutes on their smartphone, while only 10.8 percent only play games up to 30 minutes. According to the report, over 26 percent of gamers play games for 90 to 180 minutes and around 26 percent play games for more than 3 hours on their smartphones.
