Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan was detained by Mumbai airport customs detectives on Saturday for carrying several expensive watches and other high-priced gadgets here, officials said.

Customs stopped Khan and others traveling with him from Sharjah to Mumbai for having an Apple Watch and six other high-end devices in their luggage when they arrived on a private flight.

After a thorough search after their luggage was checked by the Air Intelligence Unit at Chhatrpati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), the expensive items, valued at about Rs 17.85, were discovered.

Based on that estimate, customs imposed a duty of Rs 6.83 lakh or around 38.5 per cent on the actor and his team and they were allowed to leave this afternoon.

The private flight landed at around 12.50pm at CSMIA from Sharjah, where Khan had gone to attend the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022.

On Friday he received the “Global Icon of Cinema & Cultural Narrative Award” for his contribution to international culture and film. -IANS
