WhatsApp has decided to stop supporting up to 49 smartphone models starting December 31st. If your mobile device is on this list, you will need to upgrade to a newer model to continue using the instant messaging application.
What will stop working?
WhatsApp will no longer work on devices from various manufacturers, including Apple and Samsung. This means that after the specified date, owners of such phones will no longer be able to receive updates from WhatsApp, including new features and security patches, and eventually the service will stop working for them.
It should be noted that most of the devices mentioned in the list are older and probably only used by a very small number of people. Thus, the majority of smartphone users worldwide should have no concerns about the support termination.
