Of all next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series S was the easiest to get. It even went on sale at various retailers for Black Friday and has been available at a discount ever since. We have found a balance better deal at Verizon than we’ve seen before, but it’s only for existing customers who have an account to log in with. Once you sign up, you can grab the Xbox Series S for just $230 (save $70). This includes the console and a wireless controller.
The Series S is the more compact version of the chunkier ones Xbox Series X. While it can still run next-gen games like Halo Infinite, the Series S doesn’t have a hard drive, so all your games have to be digital downloads. The 512GB of onboard storage is enough for multiple games, although an expansion card can easily add more storage if needed.
While it doesn’t support true 4K gaming like its bigger sibling, the Series S instead has a target output of 1440p and will upscale games to 4K if you have a 4K TV. It does, however, match the Series X’s 120fps rate for super-smooth motion. And at less than 3 inches thick, it’s significantly smaller too. If you’re serious about your gaming it might be worth spending the extra to snag a Series X, but if you’re just looking for a way to enjoy some of those next-gen games, the Series S is a great one Option for casual players. It also acts as a 4K streamer if you want to use it as a media device for watching Netflix, Disney Plus and the like.
