Microsoft has revealed that Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, allowing the older console to run brand new games.
Microsoft has announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, allowing video games on both platforms to be streamed instead of downloaded directly onto the console. Not only will this alleviate the need to download massive games, but it will allow the Xbox One to run Xbox Series X/S games.
The streaming gaming market has been around for a few years now, as Google and Amazon have both entered the gaming sector with their own streaming platforms. Microsoft is a major player in the streaming industry, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming. People with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription can stream Game Pass games onto smart devices, with many of them even having touch controls. It’s now possible to use Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC through a browser, allowing people to play games like Halo Infinite on computers that normally wouldn’t be able to run them.
Microsoft promised that Xbox Cloud Gaming will come to consoles in the future, and the day has finally arrived. A new trailer on the official Xbox YouTube channel has announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The Xbox website has confirmed that Xbox Cloud Gaming is only available to those with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and it’s launching in 25 regions, with Brazil being added soon.

There are some who might question why streaming Xbox games on the Xbox consoles would be useful. The most noteworthy benefit is that this technology allows Xbox One owners to play Xbox Series X/S games on their systems. For instance, The Medium was an Xbox Series X/S exclusive that couldn’t function on the Xbox One, but it can now be played on the system through streaming. The ability to stream games means that Xbox owners won’t need to wait for games to download to start playing them, especially when titles like Forza Horizon 5 are over 100GB. The fact that it’s possible to just play an Xbox Game Pass title without any loading is going to be a draw because, among other things, it allows people to test out a game before committing any hard drive space to it.
Xbox Cloud Gaming requires a fast Internet connection to work properly, especially for games in the action, fighting, or first-person shooter genres, as these need twitch reflexes to function properly. Those with a beefy Internet speed will now have instant access to Xbox Game Pass games, and the days of long install times could soon become a thing of the past.
