Xiaomi may launch two mini smartphones with Snapdragon 870 SoC soon – India Today

Xiaomi has previously shown interest in a small smartphone form factor, though no efforts from the tech major have been made public so far. As probably the first development in this regard, Xiaomi may now have started working on compact smartphones that can possibly see the day of light by next year.

A new report suggests that two Xiaomi smartphones are currently in the making and are likely to debut in the coming months. Though not much information is available on the smartphones as of now, the report does mention a few features that we may see on the phones, if or when they launch.

As per GizmoChina, two new phones by Xiaomi, with model numbers L3 and L3A, have now been spotted in the making on MIUI code. The publication mentions that the devices may be the much-awaited compact phones by the company and will likely carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipsets. The phone with model number L3 may also feature a 6.3-inch display.

Other than the recent spotting, Redmi GM Lu Weibing also hinted at the company’s potential pursuit of small screen flagship phones on Weibo on Monday. The speculation around such compact devices from the house of Xiaomi are thus, strong. Though it should be noted that nothing has officially been confirmed till now. More information on such smartphones, if they are indeed in the works, is expected in the following weeks.

Upcoming Xiaomi launches

For now, Xiaomi must be focusing on the launch of its next flagship smartphone – Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Rumours are hot on the premium device and it is likely that the company will debut it by next month in its home country, China. It has been suggested that the phone will come with Leica powered optics, including a triple-lens camera setup with a 200-megapixel main sensor accompanied by two 50-megapixel sensors for ultrawide and periscope zoom.

It is believed that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will also be the first smartphone to feature the yet-to-come Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. We can expect Qualcomm to announce the chipset’s launch by next month.

For India, Xiaomi will introduce its recently launched Redmi Note 11 smartphone as Redmi Note 11T 5G on November 30. The series is likely to be launched at a starting price of Rs 16,999. You can read all about the upcoming Redmi phones here.
