Developing countries face the challenge of getting new technologies, says Prof. Pineda

Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan leads a discussion with foreign delegates at the G-20 Think 20 meeting at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center on Monday

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Jorge Antonio Perez Pineda, Professor, Universidad Anahuac, Mexico, said developing and third world countries face the challenge of getting the new technology to industry at an affordable price. If developing countries don’t switch to new technologies as they industrialize, they could disappear from the market and even collapse economically, the professor said.

He spoke to ‘Free Press’ on the sidelines of the Think 20 meeting under G 20 held at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center in Bhopal on Monday.

The 4.0 revolution is taking place in the industrial sector of the world and the industries are shifting towards artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and various new technologies affecting the industrial sector, said the professor.

He acknowledged that many countries, including some rich ones, still use fossil fuels in industry because it is difficult to switch to clean technology (green technology) because it is costly. The process of installing the solar panel to generate clean energy is a somewhat costly affair, he added.

Referring to developing countries, including India, which have enormous manpower, the professor said: “There has to be a balance between manpower and technology, but this is a big challenge.”

Speaking about climate change triggered by intensive industrialization process long ago, the professor said that industries are now shifting to clean technologies to generate clean energy to mitigate the climate challenge that poses a huge risk. In the future, more industries will switch to clean technologies.

He explained that rich countries have better access to clean energy and said international bodies need special funding to help developing countries access modern technology.
