Nintendo is trying to prevent images from its games from being used on Steam

Nintendo has issued copyright warnings to SteamGridDB for images related to its Switch games.

The site allows users to upload custom images for use in their Steam library. Most of these are alternate cover art to customize the look and feel of a game in the library, but it is also used when there is no cover image – typically when playing games through an emulator.

As a result, images of Switch games have appeared on the site, which has since received a DMCA takedown notice, Games Radar reported.

Eurogamer Newscast: Should you take a look at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Leaks?

Specifically, the DMCA notice relates to six games: Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

These are Nintendo’s biggest new releases and most popular games, although images exist for many other Nintendo games.

Of course, SteamGridDB simply hosts images and not the ROM or emulator required to play these games.

Nintendo clearly has their eye on Steam following the release of its Steam Deck.

Back in March, videos demonstrating emulation of Nintendo games on the Steam Deck were removed.

Then last month a promotional video for the Steam Deck accidentally showed a Switch emulator.
