In the box

Along with the smartphone you get a 120W adapter, a transparent phone cover, a SIM eject pin and documentation.

design

The latest Note 12 Pro Plus is similar to its predecessor, sharing the same height and body dimensions. The company kept the neat body design, which we liked for its aesthetics. The phone comes with a glass body divided by an aluminum frame and has a reasonable body weight.

To protect against dust and splashing water, the company has given the phone an IP53 certification. On the back is a rectangular frame made up of three camera sensors and a dual LED flash. The front of the phone is all screen with just a small hole in the top center made up of the selfie camera sensor. Button placement is the same as previous phones, with the power button and volume rockers on the right side of the device. The fingerprint sensor has been integrated into the power button, which is fairly fast and accurate, but it requires some precision to set the fingerprints.

The top of the phone is intriguing, as the company has included a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a neat strategy. In addition, you will find a speaker grille and an IR emitter on the top. On the underside there is a hybrid SIM tray, a Type-C USB port and the second speaker grille.

When it comes to the display, the current Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus hardly differs from its predecessor, the Note 11 Pro Plus. The Note 12 Pro Plus has the same 6.67-inch AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate. The colors on the screen are very rich and bright with well-balanced dark areas. This is thanks to the display’s ability to reproduce 1.07 billion colors. To increase the enjoyment of the viewing experience, the company has also integrated Dolby Vision, which refines the content in high definition, allowing you to stream content from Netflix and Amazon in its original quality.

The phone has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The display brightness is also sharp, allowing us to easily use the phone even in bright sunlight. The widescreen area and 120Hz refresh rate enhance the gaming experience.

operating system

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus runs on Android 12 and features the company’s MIUI 13 interface. Just like the Note 11 Pro Plus, the user interface is almost unchanged and has the same smart features.

processor

The latest Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus is powered by a new processor – the Dimensity 1080 SoC (6 nm) – clocked at 2.6 GHz. The processor has no problems with multitasking or gaming. The new MediaTek processor helps the phone balance and supports the 200 megapixel camera.

The gaming experience is smooth as the phone is equipped with a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz, which offers a seamless and lag-free experience during intense games. To prevent the phone from overheating, the company used 3000 mm 2 Steam chambers to disperse the heat. We didn’t notice any heating issues while gaming, but this could also be related to the climate.

The variant we tested was equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.

camera

The main highlight of the new Note 12 Pro Plus is the 200 megapixel primary lens. Redmi marks the debut of the professional HPX sensor by integrating it into the camera lens. The rear main lens also uses ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition), an ultra-low-reflective coating that helps reduce glare and optimize complex lighting scenarios. But we did notice glare when objects were moving at high speeds. The OIS helps to get the right shots. The 200MP lens doesn’t shoot at such a ‘high’ setting, instead it shoots at 12.5MP by default.

As with the Note 11 Pro Plus, the other two lenses are equipped with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The primary lens does an excellent job of capturing the smallest details with great accuracy in well-lit scenes. The images we clicked on retained the correct color balance, shadows, and contrast level. On a few occasions we found that the images were oversaturated and overexposed compared to the images we had taken with other smartphones. The images captured by the ultrawide lens were also detailed and the lens was able to cover wide scenes due to its 119 degree field of view.

Color stability is maintained during ultrawide shots and there was no noise interference. The pictures taken at night turned out to be detailed and without noise effects. The night mode also improves the images. We recommend that you opt for this if you want balanced images at night. The camera also does a great job of separating the background in portrait mode. The images maintained the correct synchronicity of color and detail.

The 16 megapixel selfie sensor captures mesmerizing images with accuracy and is able to keep the images clean without diluting the colors or the details of your face.

battery

The battery in the new Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus has been upgraded. The phone packs a battery capacity of 4,980mAh, which is more than enough to keep you energized throughout the day. The load distribution is very slow because the processor’s cores cleverly manage the power distribution. To charge the phone, the company has provided a 120W fast charger that fully charges the phone in 20-25 minutes.

Verdict

We think Redmi ticked all the right boxes with the Note 12 Pro Plus. We really appreciated the use of the 3.5mm headphone jack, which most companies no longer offer at the price point the phone falls into. The powerful camera, fast processor, loading speed, and other features make the latest Note 12 Pro Plus a top contender in its price segment.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus costs ₹29,999.
